We are a no-kill animal shelter, located in Lacon, Illinois. For more than 20 years, we have been finding new forever homes for cats and dogs. We try to educate the public on the importance of spay and neuter, as well as routine vaccinations. We do it because there is a major need.
The A.R.K. is a non-profit that rescues animals and finds them loving forever homes. The A.R.K. is made up almost entirely of volunteers. At any given, we have up to 75 dogs and 200 cats in our care. All donations received are used to care for these animals. Adoption fees include vetting, age-appropriate vaccinations, microchip and spay or neuter.

SHERRI COGHILL – Shelter Manager
How she got started:
“Years ago, there was a beagle that ran around the neighborhood and it had given birth to a litter of puppies underneath a neighbor’s brush pile,” Coghill said. “The man was going to eventually burn the brush, so we gathered up the puppies and took care of them. I contacted the humane society, and back then, pet adoptions were more or less an exchange system. The woman who worked there would just call someone she knew that wanted an animal and they would go from there. One day, I found another dog and she said that they didn’t have room and if I could just take care of it. I eventually took over her position, and here we are now.”
